The Hive Effect
Many Minds. One Hive. Every Cell Connected
A non‑profit community and environmental project reconnecting people with nature — and with each other.
“Regenerating Sandwell”
This is the part that exposes the truth.
For more than a decade, Sandwell Council poured millions into:
• Lightwoods Park
• West Smethwick Park
• Warley Woods
• Victoria Park
• the new £80m college
• the £3bn Smethwick regeneration pipeline
All on the other side of the A4123.
Meanwhile, our side lost:
• parks
• fields
• allotments
• wildlife corridors
• flood‑buffer land
• community spaces
This section shows the contrast clearly:
What they got — and what we didn’t.
It’s not about envy.
It’s about fairness.

THE GREAT DIVIDE
SECTION 6 — “REGENERATING SANDWELL” (BUT NOT HERE)
A thematic breakdown of where Sandwell Council DID invest — and the stark contrast with what our community received.
THE GREAT DIVIDE
For over a decade, Sandwell Council poured millions into parks, buildings, and regeneration projects —
but only on the other side of the A4123 Wolverhampton Road.
Our side?
• Nothing.
• Not a park.
• Not a playground.
• Not a bench.
Not a penny.
WHAT THEY GOT
• £80+ Million — Sandwell College (West Bromwich)
• A brand‑new, state‑of‑the‑art campus.
• A flagship project.
• A symbol of “regeneration”.
Meanwhile, the old college site on Brook Road — on our side — was demolished and sold for housing
Community Benefits: 0
£6+ Million — Lightwoods Park Restoration
• Restored Grade II‑listed Lightwoods House
• New inclusive play area
• Restored bandstand
• Rebuilt Shakespeare Garden
• Reinstated park pool
All beautiful.
All well‑funded.
All on the other side.
£5+ Million — West Smethwick Park Pavilion
• New community building
• Boathouse
• Multi‑use games areas
• Landscaping
• Heritage restoration
Our side?
No park.
No pavilion.
No investment.
Warley Woods — Continuous Investment
• Millions raised
• Ongoing woodland maintenance
• Pavilion upgrades
• Community‑run, council‑supported
Our side?
Every green space sold, fenced, or destroyed.
Victoria Park — Regeneration Funding
• Part of a £20 million regeneration plan
• Upgraded play areas
• Improved sports facilities
Our side?
Brook Road Park: SOLD
Brook Road Field: SOLD
Allotments: SOLD
Billies: SOLD
Back of the Billies: SOLD
Brandhall Golf Course: DESTROYED
£3.8 Million (2024) + £4.3 Million (2025)
Council‑wide park and play area improvements.
50 projects across 40 parks.
Not a single one on our side of the A4123.
WHAT WE GOT:
• DOG MESS EVERYWHERE FROM THE PDSA
• LESS SPACE — MORE PEOPLE
• MORE VEHICLES — MORE TRAFFIC
• LESS TREES — LESS WILDLIFE
• NO PARKS
• NO PLAY AREAS
• NO INVESTMENT
• NO COMMUNITY BENEFITS
Our side wasn’t regenerated.
It was stripped.
THE FINAL INSULT — “REGENERATION” USED AS A WEAPON
While our community lost:
• parks
• fields
• allotments
• wildlife corridors
• flood‑buffer land
• safe spaces
• public assets
the council used the profits to “regenerate” everywhere else.
They didn’t just forget our community.
They sacrificed it.
THE A4123: A LINE ON A MAP — AND A LINE IN THE SAND
On one side:
investment, parks, heritage, regeneration, opportunity.
On our side:
concrete, traffic, pollution, neglect, and loss.
This isn’t an accident.
This is a pattern.
A policy.
A choice.
